Now We Wait…

They tell you that you’ll be proud and anxious.  They tell you that you’ll miss him more than you expect.  They tell you about the tears and the worry and the sleepless nights because you’re afraid you’ll miss a phone call.

The recruiter picking him up the night before he shipped out.

They tell you, so you know.  They tell you, so you think you’re prepared.  But you don’t know, not really.  And you’re not prepared enough.

I know he’s made it to the base where he will be going through Basic Training.  I know he’s okay.  I know he should be able to call me sometime in the next couple of days, when in processing is over before the hard stuff really starts.

The future Soldiers, Sailors, and Marines that swore in and shipped out the same day as my youngest son.

So now we wait…

About Cheri

I'm the mom of two boys and wife to my high school sweetheart. Our oldest, Josh, is 24 and living at home while working. He just finished trade school for media arts and is looking for a job that will be a career so he can get out on his own. In the meantime he's got a steady job with benefits. Our youngest, Griffin, is 20 and in the Army. He just got married so I have also gained a daughter. Unfortunately, he is stationed in Washington so they're across the country from us. I was lucky enough to have the option of leaving the work force a few years ago, but recently went back part-time to learn a new trade working at a small family owned coffee shop.
