There was a lot about this book that shouldn’t have worked but absolutely did work.  This story takes place over 9 months, but the author often skips ahead in time.  That usually doesn’t work well when it comes to establishing a romantic base for a relationship in a book.  It ends up being a bunch of telling with no showing.  That wasn’t the case here.  It could be because when Hudson and Ellie initially meet there is instant chemistry.  So although they spend a lot of time apart at the beginning, and then together in the same place but not romantically together later on, the chemistry is still felt.

I actually appreciate that this wasn’t a case of the hero and heroine agreeing to have a sexual relationship but no romantic attachment.  I enjoy those stories, but I like that Hudson and Ellie didn’t go in that direction…it wouldn’t have fit their personalities.  And, although Hudson reacted as you would imagine when he first got the news about the pregnancy, the mistrust and denial didn’t last long.

I would have liked more interaction with the people at the boys ranch because I always miss the characters I already read about.  But we do get a little bit of them.  I’m a bit confused about the character of Aaron, I thought I’d get to know him more.  He was very significant to Hudson and we heard a lot about him.  We just didn’t get to really see him.  It didn’t sway the story one way or another but I just found it odd that he didn’t feature a bit more prominently.

I’m glad I stuck with this series after a so-so first book.  The last two have been fantastic!
