This book reminds me of the Jill Shalvis I know and love.  Although I’ve enjoyed the first few books in this series, none of them quite lived up to the esteem to which I hold this author.  This story was a Jill Shalvis home run.  I loved it!

Of course, I have been curious about Elle and Archer from the very first book in this series.  Their push-pull has just gotten more and more intense through the next couple of books.  I was ready for them to combust…and they did.  Their real story of how they met, and all the years since then, really gave their relationship a whole new depth.  Sure, Elle is the Ice Queen.  But if you read the other books you know she has a heart of gold when it comes to those in her inner circle.  And Archer isn’t the unbending tough guy he wants everyone to think he is.  Well, he is to a certain extent but he also has a heart of gold like Elle.  They’re perfect for each other.

Elle hovered on the edge of being annoying with her need for independence.  Where I got where she was coming from.  I even understood why she felt like she was a “job” to Archer.  But she sometimes went a bit too far.  I love how the author turned that around and showed us how much of that had to do with Elle’s own insecurities than with anything else though.

I really feel like this series is picking up some great steam with the last two stories and I couldn’t be happier about that.  Not only have I been looking forward to Spence’s story from the beginning, but it’s a Christmas themed story to boot. One of my favorite sub-genres.

About Cheri

I'm the mom of two boys and wife to my high school sweetheart. Our oldest, Josh, is living at home while working and paying off student loans. Our youngest, Griffin recently left his active duty Army job and is now National Guard here at home. He moved back to Michigan with his wife Kirsten and our beautiful granddaughter Hazel. I work part time and try to fit as much reading into my life as possible.
