I was about halfway through this book when I realized that I hadn’t put a hold on book 3 in this series. After the first book, Hardwired, ended in a bit of a cliffhanger I knew this one wouldn’t be wrapped up in a neat bow by the end. But I was so absorbed in the story that I actually forgot to put it aside at the end of the chapter I was on so I could make sure the next book would be available for me. Yep, it was that engaging.
There were some really intense scenes in this story. As much as I was annoyed with Erica in the first book because of her habit of pulling away from Blake, it made sense in this part of the story. I wanted to be annoyed with her, but I couldn’t find it in my heart since she was so devastated by all that was going on around her.
I’m not sure if I really understand the Alli/Heath relationship. But I have to say that the little we do see of Heath in this one helped me to like him a lot more than I did before. I’m also not sure how I feel about one of the new characters, James. There are things I really like about him, but dude has to read the room sometimes. My loyalty to Blake doesn’t help my feelings toward James either.
The sexual appetite of Blake was explored a bit more in this book, but I’m sure we’ve just scratched the surface. He’s so caring and careful with Erica and I could feel her frustration when he wouldn’t listen to her about what she wanted and what she wanted to explore. I like the way the author is handling the intimate parts of this story. A slow build so as not to scare Erica (or the reader!).
As with the first book, the larger story is still not over by the end of this book. But the chapter, so to speak, of the story is over…for now. I’m really loving this author. She is great at sucking me into her world.
