Sad Heart

It’s with a sad heart that I tell you the reason I skipped my last Random Ramblings post.  My mother-in-law, a woman with a kind heart and easy smile, passed away on Sunday, April 8.

My usual update would have been posted last week, but we were right in the thick of things at that time.  Fortunately, my brother-in-law and sister-in-law were able to make it to Michigan from Louisiana and Alaska to say their good-byes. After she passed, her kids got moving with going through her apartment since they knew they wouldn’t be here long to help my husband and me get everything done.

My mom and MIL in January 2017, shortly before her health took a down turn.

While a lot has been happening in my life lately, I didn’t want to just tack this news onto the end of an update post like it’s just another random fact.  Many of you know I have been the primary caregiver for my MIL since July, when she had to move in with us due to her health.  And while she moved into an apartment of her own in January, she still had to stay close and I saw her numerous times a week for doctor appointments and shopping trips.

I’ve always said I was lucky with my MIL…she never fit that stereotype of the nag or jealous mom.  She was always supportive of me as her youngest child’s wife and the mother of her grandsons.  We could talk about almost anything and had many wonderful and deep conversations through the years.

As hard as the last year has been on my husband and me, I’m beyond grateful I was able to have that time with my mother-in-law.

I'm the mom of two boys and wife to my high school sweetheart. Our oldest, Josh, is living at home while working and paying off student loans. Our youngest, Griffin recently left his active duty Army job and is now National Guard here at home. He moved back to Michigan with his wife Kirsten and our beautiful granddaughter Hazel. I work part time and try to fit as much reading into my life as possible.
