Chase is such a great hero.  I don’t know if it’s because he reminds me of one of my sons (okay – it’s definitely because he reminds me of one of my sons) but I have such a soft spot for him.  The limitations he faced as a child and young adult, yet overcame when nobody gave him the benefit of the doubt, were no joke.  The troubles he had are all too often chalked up to a person being stupid or undisciplined.  The fact that those that should be his biggest supporters couldn’t see that he’s changed and taken control of his life is just heartbreaking to me.

Luckily, Liv is also a wonderful character.  She’s been through a lot and come through the other side even stronger.  She has blinders on when it comes to her own wants and needs, but she is extremely empathetic to others.  That’s what makes her such a wonderful nanny and friend.  She has emotional instincts that not everyone can claim to have.

It’s no secret I’m a huge fan of the friends to lovers trope.  This author did a great job with this one.  She is able to answer the question about why two people with undeniable chemistry didn’t realize they were meant for each other.  The question of how they kept such a close friendship without seeing what was right in front of their faces.  And when that seal was finally broken, she did a fantastic job of bringing the heat.

Unfortunately, just as when I read this author’s Do Over, there are quite a bit of continuity issues.  That is pet peeve of mine, especially when I’m reading such an engaging book.  To be taken out of an amazing story by these little errors is beyond frustrating.  I’m still giving this story a pretty high rating because I just couldn’t put it down.  I got so many warm-fuzzies and even quite a few tears.  That’s good story-telling in my mind.

4 stars

About Cheri

I'm the mom of two boys and wife to my high school sweetheart. Our oldest, Josh, is living at home while working and paying off student loans. Our youngest, Griffin recently left his active duty Army job and is now National Guard here at home. He moved back to Michigan with his wife Kirsten and our beautiful granddaughter Hazel. I work part time and try to fit as much reading into my life as possible.
