It’s been a really long time since I’ve visited the folks in this series. When I finished Not Quite Perfect I couldn’t even find information as to if there would be another book in the series. I’m really glad we got another story out of this series.
The dynamic between Rachel and her quasi-son Owen is lovely and tender and just truly magnificent. Owen has quite a bit of teenage sass, but not in a negative way. The boy has been through so much in his short life that it’s really a miracle he’s such a great kid, which shows how wonderful Rachel has been doing with him.
The way Jason instantly feels at ease with Rachel and Owen and just jumps right into their little family is so very sweet. He keeps himself hovering on the line between overbearing and a true knight in shining armor. He somehow finds a way to keep things on the right side of that line. Jason is fantastic with Owen and enjoys spending time with him, which come across as very genuine.
The connection between Rachel and Owen is apparent from the very beginning. I loved the pull they had which led to a build up of sexual tension since Rachel was trying to do the right thing…not date her boss. The wonderful thing about their connection is that it made them having a relationship inevitable. It was just such a natural progression, even when Rachel was trying to hold back.
Now that, from the acknowledgement at the end, it seems I have finished this series, as well as this author’s Most Likely To series and The Weekday Brides series (and loved them all) I will have to start looking at the other series this author has out there. She really writes in such a real and open manner that endears her characters to the reader.
