This week for TTT the prompt is Audio Freebie. We’re told any audio goes (audio books, podcasts, music, etc.). I’ve tried a few audiobooks, but it’s just not for me. I wish I enjoyed audiobooks the way I enjoy reading a story myself. It’s not only an issue of me having a hard time losing myself in the story, I also miss a lot because my mind will start to wander meaning I miss a good portion of the story. So I’m going to talk about my favorite podcast for this week’s TTT.
Truthfully, there are plenty of podcasts I’ve listened to that didn’t hold my interest and made my mind wander the way audiobooks tend to do. But not so with my favorite podcast, Ologies. The host of Ologies, Alie Ward, has been a favorite of mine for many years. In fact, my first experience with her was her podcast with Georgia Hardstark called Slumber Party with Alie and Georgia that began back in 2012. The duo did a lot on the Cooking Channel and even made an appearance on Drunk History. For the last 5 or so years she’s been a correspondent on Henry Ford’s Innovation Nation, and last year she got her own science show, Did I Mention Invention, on the CW. During that time, back in 2017, she started the Ologies podcast and I just adore every episode. Keeping with the Top Ten theme, I’m going to list my 10 favorite episodes in the order they were released.
Horology (Watches) with Cameron Weiss
Melittology (Bees) with Amanda Shaw
Dendrology (Trees) with J. Casey Clapp
Lepidopterology (Butterflies) with Phil Torres
Phonology (Linguistics) with Nicole Holliday
Kalology (Beauty Standards) with Renee Engeln
Conservation Technology (Earth Saving) with Shah Selbe
Corvid Thanology (Crow Funerals) Kaeli Swift
Felinology (Cats) with Dr. Mikel Delgado
Ludology (Video Games) with Dr. Jane McGonigal
Trust me on this. Even if seems a subject won’t interest you, Alie finds a way to ask the questions that make it fascinating. For example, I’m not really a dog person so didn’t think I’d like the dog episode. I loved it! And crow funerals??? Really? Give this podcast a try. I really think you’ll enjoy it more than you can imagine.
Okay, I really want to check all of these podcasts out. We have such similar tastes!
My Top Ten Tuesday post.
Really, you can’t go wrong with any of the episodes. She makes learning science fun!
BTW, loved your spin on this week’s topic.
Hmmm… never thought that a subject like crow funerals could be interesting. Or even that there was such a thing!
I know! But Alie Ward and her guests are so enthusiastic about the subjects each week it makes for a great listening experience.
Great list! happy reading.
