Leader of the most powerful army in the heavens, Zacharel has been deemed nearly too dangerous, too ruthless-and if he isn’t careful, he’ll lose his wings. But this warrior with a heart of ice will not be deterred from his missions, at any cost…until a vulnerable human tempts him with a carnal pleasure he’s never known before.
Accused of a crime she did not commit, Annabelle Miller has spent four years in an institution for the criminally insane. Demons track her every move, and their king will stop at nothing to have her. Zacharel is her only hope for survival, but is the brutal angel with a touch as hot as hell her salvation-or her ultimate damnation?
First, a bit about placement in series of this book. It’s can truly be looked at as a first in a series. There is some crossover with the Lords of the Underworld, but you won’t be lost if you haven’t read those books. That being said, it’s an amazing series and you should read it anyway. Now, if you’re already reading the Lords of the Underworld series I don’t think you want to miss this one. I mean…Zacharel. Enough said.
We’ve seen Zacharel quite a bit in the last couple of books of the Lords of the Underworld series, especially The Darkest Seduction. Yet we haven’t gotten to really KNOW Zacharel. He’s very mysterious and I couldn’t wait to learn more about him and his past. This story digs deep into these very things. He’s not an easy man (angel), but he’s worth the time and love he ends up gaining from his soldiers and Annabelle.
What can I say about Annabelle? She’s definitely not a quitter. There’s no part of that woman that will ever roll over and accept her fate. She’s a fighter, a protector, a scrapper. Annabelle has dealt with things nobody should ever have to deal with, seen things no human should have to witness. I have nothing but respect for Annabelle, and she’s the perfect match for Zacharel.
I can’t say much because I don’t want to give anything away, but I think I’m going to enjoy getting to know Zacharel’s ragtag army of almost-fallen angels. They fascinate me. Of course, this book also has the action, heat, love, and humor I’ve come to expect from Gena Showalter.
