Having endured weeks of torture in the bowels of hell, Kane wants nothing to do with his beautiful rescuer, Josephina Aisling. The half-Fae female threatens to awaken the demon of Disaster inside him—a beast he’s determined to kill, no matter the price.
Josephina is hunted by a brutal enemy—her royal family—and Kane is her only source of protection. He’s also the only male to ever set her aflame, and even he succumbs to the heat. But as they navigate the treacherous world of the Fae, they are forced to make a choice: live apart…or die together.
My goodness, Kane had me crying within the first few chapters. That man just tore me up. In many ways he is the toughest Lord. The things he’s been through in the last few books are atrocious, but he’s come through the other end and is finding a way to help others. He’s also gotta be the sweetest. The inner workings of that man’s mind, the rejection he’s felt through all the thousands of years, just killed me.
Josephina aka Tink is such a refreshing spitfire. On one hand, she grew up with the Lords being celebrities in her Fae world. On the other, she wasn’t going to let her tendency to get star-struck by Kane stop her from getting what she wanted. Little did either of them know how much her feelings of not belonging paralleled those of Kane. Both Tink and Kane felt drawn to each other, they just didn’t understand why. In fact, both of them had such an expectation of being left behind they didn’t even realize the other actually wanted them to be together.
I could not stand the Fae rulers or the Opulens. I’m telling you, Gena Showalter knows how to get a reaction from me. Be it rage, empathy, fear, love…she gives me all the feels all the time.
We learn more and more about William as these stories progress and he figured quite prominently in this one. He cracks me up every time. Just as I’m ready to write him off as being a total jerk, his real motivations become clear and I once again remember how wonderfully sweet he really is deep down.
Every story in this series answers some questions but poses so many more. It’s a wonderful roller coaster and I’m enjoying the ride. Right now, although I’m very curious about the Cameo situation, I am riveted by what is happening with Torin.
