First Lines Fridays is a weekly feature for book lovers hosted by Wandering Words. What if instead of judging a book by its cover, its author or its prestige, we judged it by its opening lines? If you want to make your own post, feel free to use or edit the banner above, and follow the rules below:
- Pick a book off your shelf (it could be your current read or on your TBR) and open to the first page
- Copy the first few lines, but don’t give anything else about the book away just yet – you need to hook the reader first
- Finally… reveal the book!
The cats nestle close to their kittens,
The lambs have laid down with the sheep.
You’re cozy and warm in your bed, my dear,
Please go the f*ck to sleep.
Any Guesses?
If you know children’s books (yes, this is a children’s book) this may be an easy one.
If you don’t know children’s books, this may seem impossible.
We actually got this one for our granddaughter for Christmas. But let’s be real, it’s really for her parents.
Go the F**k to Sleep by Adam Mansbach & illustrated by Ricardo Cortes
I haven’t read the whole thing yet, but I believe most sleep deprived new parents can appreciate the sentiment of this story.
