First Lines Friday – 10/16/20

First Lines Fridays is a weekly feature for book lovers hosted by Wandering Words. What if instead of judging a book by its cover, its author or its prestige, we judged it by its opening lines?  If you want to make your own post, feel free to use or edit the banner above, and follow the rules below:

1. Pick a book off your shelf (it could be your current read, on your TBR, a past read…any book you’d like) and open to the first page

2. Copy the first few lines, but don’t give anything else about the book away just yet – you need to hook the reader first

3. Finally… reveal the book!

First Lines…

It wants to mark my flesh…The full moon beat light down on a canvas of snow and barren trees, making Mariah’s hunter green dress glow as distinctly as a beacon for the beast pursuing her.

Any guesses???

I actually used the first book in this series as a previous FLF post.

There’s a popular podcast that was started because of this book series. In fact, it’s how I heard about the series and decided to start reading these books.

In my opinion, the stories have gotten better as the series has progressed. This is only the third book in the series and I just finished it, but I have to say I’m liking the way we’re introduced to a bit more lore each time.

Wicked Deeds on a Winter Night
(Immortals After Dark #3)
by Kresley Cole

Her breathless kiss haunts him…
Bowen MacRieve of the Lykae clan was nearly destroyed when he lost the one woman meant for him. The ruthless warrior grew even colder, never taking another to his bed—until a smoldering encounter with his enemy, Mariketa the Awaited, reawakens his darkest desires. When sinister forces unite against her, the Highlander finds himself using all his strength and skill to keep her alive.

His slow, hot touch is irresistible…
Temporarily stripped of her powers, Mari is forced to take refuge with her sworn adversary. It’s rumored that no one can tempt Bowen’s hardened heart, but soon passion burns between them. Though a future together is impossible, she fears he has no intention of letting her go.

No deed is too wicked for her seduction…
If they defeat the evil that surrounds them, can Mari deny Bowen when he demands her body and soul—or will she risk everything for her fierce protector?

  1. Ooh, I’ve never heard of this book before but it sounds deliciously steamy! I’m also really liking that cover 😍

If you like steamy paranormal romance, this series fits the bill. The men are super alpha, but the women always put them in their place. I’m finding this series is extremely popular, but for some reason wasn’t on my radar until about a year ago.
