Friday Favorites – 02/19/2021

I started this feature on my blog just last week. As I said at the time, I’m hoping to share favorite things of mine. Most will have to do with books and reading, but it won’t be just quotes or just particular books. Sometimes I’ll give a great quote or three from a book or several books, sometimes I’ll discuss an author, sometimes I’ll recommend a podcast I’m loving, and sometimes (like today) I’ll do a recap on a series I loved.

I am a huge fan of Nicole Edwards. The majority of her books are independently published. I just realized I was going to go off on a tangent of things I love about this author, but this is a post about a particular series. So I’m going to rein it in!

While the majority of Ms. Edwards’ work would, to me, be considered erotic romance, her Office Intrigue series took a deeper dive into different alternative lifestyles. There had been plenty of non-conventional, and even polyamorous, relationships in her previous stories. Here, though, she delves more into the BDSM lifestyle and alternative romances. I was prepared to be a bit indifferent when it came to the storylines that dealt with the sadism aspect of this sexual exploration. Was I surprise that the story that actually centered around a sadist was one of my favorite of the bunch. That’s because this author has the ability to really show the soul of her characters. Yes, there’s a lot of sex and kink going on in the books. But the stories are about the personalities on the page. The relationships, families, friends, hope, and dreams of the characters. It’s not erotica (not that there’s anything wrong with that), it’s erotic romance.

Nicole Edwards lets her readers know there’s someone for everyone. Sometimes couples discover their kinks together. Other couples meet each other through their kinks. And still others realize they no longer have the same desires once they find their HEA. It’s all okay, it’s all normal, and it’s all about exploring what is right for each individual.

While this series does not actually contain my favorite of Nicole Edwards’ books, nor is it even my favorite of her series, I just finished the series so it’s fresh in my mind. Plus, unlike with some of her other series where there may be more books coming, she has expressed that she is done with this one. And, regardless if it’s my very favorite of hers or not, it’s still amazing.

Each of the books in the Office Intrigue series, with the exception of the first two stories, can be read as standalones. But the experience is all the better if you read it all and get to know everyone. In fact, this author tends to have her characters cross over here and there, which is always a fun surprise for her avid followers. If you start this series and find you like her style, I strongly recommend heading over to her website and following her overlap reading order for her books. It’s so much more fun that way!

I’m going to list each book from the Office Intrigue series with a link to my review. There’s even an excerpt from a blog tour I participated in for one of them. I really hope you give these books a try. And, if you do, c’mon back and we can chat about who our favorite couples and throuples are.

These are the books that started it all. Be prepared, you have to read both books to get the HEA you came for. The author started this series as one book, which got so long it ended up a duet. But the other characters in the story weren’t done talking to the author so we ended up with a whole series. I’m not complaining!
