TTT: Favorite Words

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. There is a new topic each week for bloggers to join in with their own top ten. If youโ€™re looking for some new or different book blogs to read, hop on over to her site and check out some of the links.

This week’s Top Ten Tuesday topic is supposed to be funny book titles. I know I’ve read plenty of books with funny titles, but my brain is not working at all. I just didn’t have the motivation to dig through my lists to find funny titles either. So, I looked back at some old Top Ten Tuesday posts and picked one of those to do instead. My Favorite Words. I’d guess that most avid readers also love words. I look forward to getting my word of the day from my dictionary app every day and reading about its origins and usage. I’m a total nerd for words and proud of it.

Some of the words on this list are pretty common, others are not used in every day conversation. One is not really a word but a phrase. No matter how it can be categorized, it’s on this list because I find the word/phrase interesting. Be it for it’s definition, the pronunciation, or some other reason altogether. These are some of my favorite words.

I started thinking about this post on Sunday. On Monday morning my app told me the word of the day was abecedarian. Never heard that word before, but I love it! Decided that is how I will post my list…alphabetically. And you better believe that will be one of my words.

Do you have any favorite words? I’d love to hear them!

  1. In our town way back in the 1920s, I think, a group of women started the Athenaem Club. They met, discussed books, planted trees, started a town library, and did a world of good.

Thank you for making me think about this club again.

I honestly use that word all the time. I don’t generally realize I’m doing it unless I’m around someone who doesn’t know me well, because it always gets a weird look.

I’ve only heard of higgledy-piggledy and unkempt before, so I got to learn something new as I realize there are so many words that I don’t know! Great list! [My Top Ten]

  4. I’ve only heard of higgledy-piggledy and unkempt and I had a hard time pronouncing some of these words but I love the look of them ๐Ÿ˜‚ Great list!
