Back before I had my PE a bit more than a year ago, I did yoga pretty regularly. Of course I had my ups and downs, getting out of the habit for a bit here and there. But I know I always feel better when I get my yoga in. It’s been hard for me to keep to any sort of regular schedule when it comes to yoga, or any exercise regimen for that matter. It seems once I get into a good rhythm for a week or so, I have a set back. I was bound and determined that July would be my month! Until yesterday, I was able to squeeze some yoga in every day. (Yep, another health set-back. But nothing that should hold me back more than a day or two.) Sometimes it was only 10 minutes, but still. I’ve also been trying to get some walking in on days I don’t work. That hasn’t happened as often as I’d like, but I’m getting out there a bit.
As much as I enjoy yoga, I love doing yoga outdoors even more. My older sister, Gina, got me into yoga when she became an instructor. In fact, the first time I did outdoor yoga was under her instruction on her front lawn when she still lived in Michigan. Our local Farmer’s Market used to have yoga in the park every Sunday through summer. Due to Covid they didn’t have that last year, not that I would have been able to go with my own health issues. I haven’t seen they have started it back and I really miss getting my Vitamin D while stretching my body and finding some peace. I’ve done yoga in my backyard myself in the past, but it was hard to hear my video and I didn’t want to crank it too loud.
For this week’s Friday Favorites, I was going to talk about my new headphones. The thing is, there is nothing super special about them other than they are my first set of bluetooth headphones. So while I’m happy to have a decent set of headphones, my favorite thing lately has been doing yoga in my backyard…weather permitting.
We’ve had some rainy mornings, forcing me indoors on my work days so as not to run late. But it’s supposed to be decent tomorrow morning and my new medication is kicking in so I’m hoping to get back out there. It’s quite dewy, regardless of rain, at the time I want to be out there. So I put down a beach blanket below my mat, pop my earbuds in, and hope my neighbors aren’t looking out their windows. We have a privacy fence on all sides but one, and I always wonder if our neighbor is avoiding his yard because he knows I’m out there. Quite honestly, it makes me giggle. Although I do hope he doesn’t feel trapped in his own home for the 30 or so minutes I’m out there.

If you enjoy yoga and have never done it outside, I encourage you to give it a try if you have the space to do so. I’ve attended free classes through library programs, different farmer’s markets, and at a museum. I’ve seen low-cost classes through breweries and coffee houses. I even know of classes given at Comerica Park (our major league ball park), which were a bit more but a unique opportunity. I’m hoping to get out in my yard at least a couple times a week through September. You can never tell when Michigan is going to get cold.
So that’s it folks. I’m loving doing yoga outdoors with my new headphones. A sliver of peace in this hectic life.
