Friday Favorites – 5/13/22

I’m actually going to talk about two things for Friday Favorites this time. I haven’t been posting favorites, or even my flashbacks, lately. But I have been posting only books I highly rated on Fridays so if anyone came here looking for my favorites they’d still get something I loved. It’s not that I haven’t come across things I enjoyed lately, it’s just that I haven’t had the motivation to dive in and actually type up a post. But on Sunday, I heard a podcast that fascinated me that I wanted to share. Then my kids gave me a very fun Mother’s Day gift that I can’t not share.

I’ll start with the podcast. I’ve shared podcasts from Radiolab before. Truly, you can’t go wrong with any of their episodes. This particular episode, Null, is shorter than most and had me sharing what I learned with everyone in my family. It’s about names and words and how computers interpret names and words. We are a family with the range from hyphenated middle names to only initials for middle names. I know all these words I’m putting down here do not make it sound as if this is a must-listen podcast, but trust me on this. It’ll give you a lot to think about.

Now for the fun gift my kids gave me. I had asked for help with yard work for Mother’s Day, which I got. Along with them buying me lunch. But they had another surprise up their sleeve. Not to be too cynical of my guys, but I’m pretty sure my daughter-in-law thought this one up. (Edited 5/28/22: After speaking with my DIL after she saw this post, turns out it wasn’t her idea! It was my youngest son’s idea and my oldest thought this particular picture would be the best one to recreate. At 28 and 24 they can still surprise me, lol.) Being as my kids absolutely hate getting their picture taken and generally don’t smile for the camera, this was even more special. They actually did one of those photo recreations from a picture I have of them that’s over 20 years old.

Listen, I realize I suck and taking pictures and that I should have dusted the glass in the old frame before taking this picture. But it is what it is. Don’t judge me. Remember that part at the beginning of this post where I said I’ve had a hard time sitting down to type of these posts recently. When I realized how bad this picture turned out I just didn’t have the energy or time to retake it. I still love it and you get the idea.

Have a fantastic weekend everyone!
