Friday Favorites – 7/8/22

It’s the little things that can often make us happy. For this week’s Friday Favorites I’m going to talk about my pool. Now, I’m not talking about a fancy pool or even a deep pool. I’m talking about a blow up family size pool I got from Big Lots.

About 4 years ago I bought a pirate ship pool on a whim at Sam’s Club. It was on sale and my nieces and nephew would enjoy it if they were over and I thought it would be fun. Turns out, I loved sitting in this pool. I would sit with my back leaning on the cannon end and read my book. It felt so good on my back to be a little lighter. This lasted for two summers. It was a pain in the but when not in use because we didn’t want to empty the air and blow it back up over and over, but we found our ways.

Last year I got another pool from Sam’s Club for a good price that I loved to sit in, but it was even more unwieldly to move around due to those side chairs (which I never used but the grandbaby loved) and eventually got ripped so only lasted the one summer.

This year I looked for something big enough for me to lean on the sides but not so wide as the last one. Truth be told, I’m looking for a hot tub in the near future and we have plans for some updates to the house soon. But that takes money and time. For now, these little family blow up pools help me out and relax me. We used to have a regular size pool (one of those with the pvc pipe sides and liner) when the kids were little, but I can’t handle cold water and the water never seemed to be warm enough for me. The kids stopped using it as much and it wasn’t worth the upkeep. Anyway, I found what I was looking for at Big Lots. Again, these pools have all been under $40. It’s not great for the grass, but our backyard grass is terrible anyway. And it really is enjoyable for me.

My only beef has been that I can’t seem to find a position to sit with my Kindle where I can comfortably rest it on my knees and not get it wet. I was running errands yesterday and was by a Five Below so ran in to see if they had something I could make work. You guys, you would not believe what this little $5 float has done to change the game for me. I sit in the corner, have the “retro cassette tape” floaty over my lap and rest my arms and book on top. Perfect!

Like I said, it’s the little things. I hope you’re enjoying your summer, no matter if you have a cool pool like mine or not.
