TTT: Favorite New-to-Me Authors in 2022

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. There is a new topic each week for bloggers to join in with their own top ten. If you’re looking for some new or different book blogs to read, hop on over to her site and check out some of the links.

Technically this week’s Top Ten Tuesday topic is New-to-Me Authors I Discovered in 2022. If my record keeping is accurate, I read over 20 new-to-me authors this year and they weren’t all as wonderful as the following authors I list. I set out to figure out the ten who I rated the highest and ended up changing course as I did my figuring and ended up with my top ten Favorite New-to-Me Authors in 2022.

There are some authors I read for the first time in 2022 that I rated the story 5-stars, but I only read one book by them. There are others I read multiple books from that also had at least one 5-star read, but some weren’t quite that high which brought the average down. Me, I’m more interested in the authors that I will want to return to again and again. So even if their average rating from me may be lower than a “perfect 5”, it’s most likely because I read more than one book by them and we can’t all be perfect all the time. I’d rather read an imperfect book that brings me joy, and laughter, and gives me warm fuzzies than a “perfect” book that, although thought-provoking and wonderful, is more sedate and serious.

So here are the authors that landed in my top ten favorites. Authors I am looking forward to reading again and again. Although I may not have given every book I’ve read from them so far a 5-star review, they all have an average review score of 4 stars or more.

By this post, it looks like I read mostly historical romance in 2022, but that’s not the case. The majority of my reads were still contemporary romance. But it’s obvious that getting back into the genre about a year and a half ago brought a lot of favorite new-to-me authors into my reading life. Some of them are icons in the romance reading and writing world and I cannot believe it took me so long to pick up their books. I’m just glad I finally did.

  1. That’s a good way to do it—to pick out the authors you want to return to again and again.

I like your method for choosing books and authors for this post. Yeah, an author doesn’t have to get 5 stars for me to want to read more from them either.

  3. Callihan and Liese are both authors I love! I’m so happy you found them.

  4. You found some great romance novelists in 2022!

You have some great books and authors on this list and some I’ve not heard of. I shall make a note of their names and see if my library has any of their books available.

    Idol looks interesting.

Here is our Top Ten Tuesday.

Same. 117 of the books I read last year were by new-to-me authors, but only about 20 of them were authors I liked enough to revisit. Even though a lot of them turn out to be duds, I still like reading new-to-me authors because I always find a few gems among them. Glad you found some new ones to love in 2022!

    Happy TTT!

I’m not brave enough to try that many new authors, lol. I want to find fresh writing, but also want the comfort of writing I know will bring me joy. I’m impressed that anyone can take that many chances in one year!

  8. I’ve not read books by any of these authors, but glad to see you enjoyed them. I always take the same tac for these lists and just used authors that I think I’ll read again in the future as not all new authors I read each year are ones I return to, so that left me with five, and I did the rest of the list as new authors I want to read this year.
