Seven deadly sins. Seven souls that must be saved. One more no-holds-barred battle between a fallen angel with a hardened heart and a demon with everything to lose.

Isaac Rothe is a black ops soldier with a dark past and a grim future. The target of an assassin, he finds himself behind bars, his fate in the hands of his gorgeous public defender Grier Childe. His hot attraction to her can only lead to trouble—and that’s before Jim Heron tells him his soul is in danger. Caught up in a wicked game with the demon who shadows Jim, Isaac must decide whether the soldier in him can believe that true love is the ultimate weapon against evil.

I took a little break between the first book in this series and this one, but the story didn’t. It picks up where Covet left off.

Jim and his helpful companions Adrian and Eddie are back again with a new soul to save. But first Jim is determined to help Isaac, a man who once helped him and worked for the same people who used to employ Jim. It turns out there is a strong possibility that Isaac is the soul Jim needs to save.

This story has a lot of connections to Jim’s old life. Connections he wasn’t even aware of. There is a race against time in both the spirit realm and on earth. Isaac is attempting to run for his life yet he cannot help but be drawn to his pro bono attorney Grier. Jim is in his own battle with Devina and leaves the babysitting of Isaac to Adrian and Eddie for a time.

While this story digs deeper into the overall good vs. evil theme of this series, there are also more insights into what Jim is able to do with his new position and the depths to which Devina will stoop to win.

The thing I liked the most in this story was the romantic connection between Isaac and Grier. Isaac is just so good while believing he’s bad. His heart is so pure and he always does what he believes is right for those around him instead of what is best for him.

I do wish Jim and Isaac would have had more time together and that Isaac would have been let in on a bit more of Jim’s mission. It’s what I expected after how much the couple in the first story were privy to the situation. It was still an engaging story.
