This is going to be a super quick Friday Favorite, but I couldn’t not mention the wonderful day I had last Saturday. My friend Dawn, who I’ve knows since 6th grade invited me to go to a women’s college gymnastic meet with her. She has season ticket for the University of Michigan women’s team and, when she saw they had a meet against Auburn she asked me to join her. You see, Suni Lee (yes, Olympian Sunisa Lee) goes to Auburn and she thought I’d enjoy the opportunity to see her perform live.
It was my first college gymnastics meet and I had a great time. The Crisler Arena, where the women compete, had a record crowd for a gymnastics meet. (The venue is also used for their basketball teams so it was by far not the largest crowd overall, but still.) Even with the record crowd side, I never felt crowded. They still have strict Covid guidelines in place, which made me feel more relaxed about being among a group of strangers.
I’m by no means good with my phone camera, even less so when it’s an action type of shot I’m trying to take. So I won’t hurt your eyes with my terrible pictures. But Dawn took a good one of us before the meet started. And honestly, it’s not going to be the routines or the scores that will stick with me from the night. It’s having some face-time with an old and dear friend that will live in my memory.
(By the way, Michigan won the meet.)
